Lent starts tomorrow — I meet with my physical trainer tonite at the gym, and begin my fasting at sundown. I attend Mass tomorrow morning at 8am. I’ve been doing a lot of reading about diet plans… I need to go veggie…. man that kills me…. but I’ll give it a go… here’s what it says:
Blood Group A
According to Dr D’Adamo, digestive system is apparently very good at remembering that our ancestors had settled, farming lifestyles, which included eating lots of grains and vegetables but little meat. Consequently, blood type A’s should follow a vegetarian diet but still avoid dairy products. This means nuts, seeds, beans, cereals, pasta, rice, fruit and veg are all on the ‘to eat’ list. Meanwhile, calming exercises are thought to be best for blood type A’s such as yoga or golf.
Screw that yoga business — I much prefer a kick boxing or weight lifting class, or simply an hour of spinning or eliptical. Yoga schmoga. So… following those rules I will be committing to giving up the following for Lent (40 days starting tomorrow):
-
Red meat in any form
-
Drinks other than water
-
All fried foods
And add back to my routine the following positives:
-
Take supplements daily
-
Go to the gym 3x a week minimum
-
Meditate for half hour daily
-
Read for half hour daily
-
Restring and practice guitar 3x a week
I’ll lose weight and should be in a much better mental place. Coming off the caffiene will not be fun, but it’s doable. I’m sure wandering alone in the desert for 40 days was no walk in the park (that was punny) either….. lol. Wish me luck.
What are YOU giving up? He gave His life for you, you can sacrifice for 40 days for Him.
I love your playlist! I hadn’t heard the Elliot Smith song in a while.
About Dr. D’Admo: I don’t really understand how antibodies in your blood could require such individualistic diets or significantly influence our body’s digestive processes. From my understanding, antigens and antibodies work like a key, acting as an all or nothing alarm system. If food molecules happen to have a similar ingredient or part to antigens, the antibodies would not react since it doesn’t have the entire ‘key’. I will have to look through his arguments next time I am at a bookstore. Amazon didn’t really have much of an exerpt.
Your Lent commitments sound great! Drinks other than water would be hard for me. I really like milk and bubbly juices like Izze. Maybe if seltzer is counted as water, I would do okay. For Lent I’m giving up a favorite tv program in favor of an extra 30 mins of walking outside.
dunno?
